  1. Four candidates have accepted an invitation for an on-campus interview for the OSU Extension Associate Director of Operations position.

COVID-19 Updates

  1. New COVID-19 vaccine boosters and flu shots are available.

College Connections

  1. Information sessions for graduate and professional students interested in applying to be a 2023-24 Schweitzer Fellow will take place on Nov. 1, 8, 21 and 30 via Zoom.

Campus Connections/Partnerships

  1. A request for applications is now open for the Office of Knowledge Enterprise’s Interdisciplinary Innovation Team Development Award.

Programming Perspectives

  1. In September, the Butler County 4-H program hosted its inaugural AgFest event, a workforce development day designed to teach youth about the wide variety of agricultural-based careers.

  2. The National Extension Conference on Volunteerism (NECV) 2023 will be held May 9-11, 2023, in Lexington, Kentucky.

  3. If you’re interested in joining us one of the upcoming webinars or an in-person tax school, contact Barry Ward, director of the schools.

  4. The final A DAY in the Woods program for 2022 will address family forests and carbon, via a Zoom-based webinar.

  5. A representative from The Nature Conservancy will discuss what landowners need to know about forest carbon markets in Ohio.

  6. A free webinar will be offered by Penn State on Nov. 16 (10 a.m.) discussing the spotted lanternfly and potential impacts on the maple syrup industry.

  7. Mark Cannella, with the University of Vermont, will present this half day workshop with a focus on strategic planning, marketing and managing finances toward profitability.

  8. This will be a one-day event focused on all things maple, held at Ashland University’s Convocation Center. ​​​​​​​

Award Opportunities/Reminders

  1. Do you know a support staff member who excels at their job? Consider nominating them for one of the many CES awards!

  2. A new NIH Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy will go into effect in January 2023 for all NIH funding applications.

Operations/Business of Extension

  1. The Ohio State Board of Trustees approved a comprehensive Outside Activities and Conflicts policy effective as of Sept. 1.

  2. Career Roadmap will be implemented for 26,000 staff in Workday the first week of November.

Celebrating Colleagues

  1. OSU Extension 4-H youth development colleagues were recently recognized at the 2022 annual conference of the NAE4-HYDP.

  2. The National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) recently recognized OSU Extension professionals with a national award in environmental education.

  3. Nancy Bowen, associate professor and Extension field specialist, community economics, OSU Extension, and a colleague in the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, led a team of faculty and staff to research and develop the report.

Professional Development Opportunities

  1. The online guides for faculty and A&P educator promotion have recently been updated. ​​​​​​​

  2. Publishing our work in peer-reviewed outlets (fact sheets, conference proceedings and academic journals) carries a lot of rewards for the author, OSU Extension, and the readership of these works.

  3. Check out the ongoing list of workshops hosted by the Leadership Center this fall. ​​​​​​​

Extension Annual Conference

  1. The OSU Extension annual conference will be held on Dec. 5-7, and there are several updates as of this week.

Health and Wellness

  1. Are you interested in promoting Diabetes Awareness Month in November?

  2. You can reduce the cost of your health care plan by completing a biometric screening and PHA by Dec. 31.

  3. The Ohio State Aging Team is offering a free Connection Café: Caregiving Around the Clock virtual series every Tuesday in November.
