Leadership Notes

College Connections

  1. David Marrison, field specialist, farm management, has been named interim director of the CFAES Farm Financial Management and Policy Institute.

  2. Visit the state-of-the-art Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex, virtually, with a new 360° tour available via the Knowledge Exchange.

Campus Connections/Partnerships

  1. The next meeting of the Engaged Practitioners Network will be held on Dec. 2.

Community Connections

  1. This fall, Ohio State’s campuswide “Be Kind” event to address food insecurity assembled and delivered more than 175,000 meals in southeastern Ohio.

Programming Perspectives

  1. Ohio Corn and Wheat would like to sponsor Extension events again in 2023.

  2. Join Enrico Bonello, professor in plant pathology, for a discussion about the use of sentinel tree plantings to monitor for pests and diseases.

  3. The Agronomic Crops Weather Extremes and Climate Committee is presenting a webinar series on the impacts of extreme weather and climate.

Award Opportunities/Reminders

  1. Nominations for the 2022-2023 CFAES faculty and staff awards are due by Nov. 30. ​​​​​​​

Operations/Business of Extension

  1. Departments/units are permitted to schedule holiday events this year in addition to college-wide gatherings, but events must adhere to the university expenditure policy and other related policies.

  2. The Office of Sponsored Programs and the CFAES Office for Research and Graduate Education is offering scheduled office hours weekly for Extension professionals.

  3. Employees who are dealing with a severe or life-threatening may be eligible for vacation donation from other employees; however there are some guidelines to follow.

Celebrating Colleagues

  1. Scott D. Hardy, an Extension educator with Ohio Sea Grant and Stone Laboratory in the School of Environment and Natural Resources, was recently recognized as a Community Connector.

Professional Development Opportunities

  1. For Extension A&P educators and faculty, Greg Davis is holding one last office hour for an informal promotion-related discussion on Dec. 1.

  2. An Ohio Organic Grains Conference will be held on Jan. 4-5, 2023 at Sauder Village in Archbold, Ohio.

  3. Those interested in possibly pursuing a graduate degree through the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership can review a recent informational meeting recording.

  4. Launch to Success Grant-Writing Workshop participants will write grants and receive peer and expert review during the spring semester.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  1. During summer 2022, OSU Extension and the Office of Outreach and Engagement partnered to bring a series of DEI workshops to staff working in SNAP-Ed.

  2. Join this Cultural Connections event live or via livestream on Dec. 8, presented by CFAES International Programs.

Extension Annual Conference

  1. Register by Nov. 28 for the 2023 OSU Extension annual conference; hotel registration is due today!

  1. National Family Caregivers Month marks a time to celebrate caregivers, support their needs, and educate communities.
