Leadership Notes

  1. While school supplies are already on store shelves and August is just around the corner, there’s still plenty of summer left in what continues to be an extraordinarily busy season for many of us. From pasture walks and fairs to fielding questions about food preservation and hosting workshops,

  2. Extension’s Administrative Cabinet is hosting Regional Conversations in November. It is important that every Extension professional register for and attend one of five dates we’ve set aside to have these conversations.

College Connections

  1. The annual CFAES Teaching Symposium will take place on Aug. 11 (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) at the Fawcett Center. This no-cost event offers professional development for all members of the college teaching community.

Community Connections

  1. The SNAP-Ed program in Defiance County is helping improve access to local foods for community members.

  2. The North American Manure Expo will be hosted July 30 and 31 at the Fulton County Fairgrounds in Wauseon. The expo will feature tours, educational sessions, demonstrations, a trade show, and much more.

Programming Perspectives

  1. Extension’s Dairy Team is organizing an in-person meeting on Aug. 13 (9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.) at the Extension office in Crawford County.

  2. There will be a virtual Farmland Leasing Webinar on Aug. 15 (10 a.m. - noon).

  3. There will be a webinar on Aug. 29 (10-11:30 a.m.) for newer educators to learn about in-county responsibilities related to pesticide applicator trainings (PAT).

  4. Aquaponics/Aquacultrue Boot Camp ABC is a series of monthly single-day training sessions that will run from October 2025 through September 2026.

Award Opportunities/Reminders

  1. The National Association of Extension Program and Staff Development Professionals (NAEPSDP) is accepting applications for its 2025 awards and scholarship program.

Operations/Business of Extension

  1. There are several business arrangements in the course of your work that will require a contract. This is a reminder that you should never sign a contract, MOU or MOA locally.

  2. An updated CFAES Ground Transportation (Mileage Log) has been added to the CFAES Finance website.

  3. The next Extension Marketing Meetup will be on Aug. 6 (1:30-2:30 p.m.). We will take a peek at some updated template options in Adobe Express and talk about some new design elements.

Celebrating Colleagues

  1. The National Association of County Agricultural Agents recently recognized national, regional, and state award winners at its annual conference.

  2. The National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Development Professionals (NAEP4-HYDP) recently announced national, regional, and state winners for its communicator and specialty awards.

  3. Over the past few months, new Extension professionals have joined our statewide team. We’ve also had some colleagues take on new roles within the organization, and others have retired.

Health and Wellness

  1. It’s a good idea to review your financial health once a year, and summer is a good time to do just that. The Live Healthy Live Well team recently shared some action steps that you can take to get a pulse on your household’s financial health—including request a credit report, review weekly/

  2. For the safety of children, it’s important to take the time to properly dispose of any prescription drugs in your home or in any space where a child might access them.
