Barrett Named Assistant Dean and Associate Chair

Eric Barrett has been named assistant dean of OSU Extension and associate chair for the Department of Extension – effective Sept. 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029. 

The key responsibilities for this appointment include:  

  • Fostering effective, collegial, cooperative, and productive relationships among students, staff, and faculty within the department and with other departments and programs at the university. 

  • Overseeing and supporting faculty affairs for OSU Extension. 

  • Working with other department chairs and administrators to advance the vision and mission of the Department of Extension to optimize resource needs of the department. 

  • Representing the Department of Extension and promoting collaboration with university partners and external stakeholders to increase state, national, and international presence. 

  • Overseeing the faculty promotion and tenure process. 

  • Overseeing the A&P promotion process. 

Eric has been serving as the interim assistant dean of OSU Extension and associate chair of the Department of Extension since November 2023. He also currently serves as a professor and Extension educator, agriculture and natural resources in Mahoning County, where he conducts programming in direct marketing, urban agriculture, and horticulture. 

Eric also serves as Area 10 leader, where he has successfully supported colleagues in their professional development and guided them through effective budget and grant management. An announcement about area leader responsibilities will be made soon. Prior to these roles, Eric served as county director in Mahoning, Columbiana, and Washington counties. Eric also recently completed two terms on the CFAES Faculty Council, serving as chair. 

Eric earned a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences and a master’s degree in agricultural economics, both from The Ohio State University.
