Performance Reviews

A performance review is a summative two-way discussion and written documentation focusing on employee performance (areas of excellence, areas for improvement, goals related to performance and professional development).

Detailed information on the process timeline and the performance review tools are posted below for each OSU Extension job group. Several other general performance review job tools and reference materials are also available.

Adding Goals To The Performance Tool

Here is a short video demonstration on the following steps: https://go.osu.edu/extensionstaffreviews_intro

  1. ENTER THE PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT TOOL
    1. Go to https://apps.hr.osu.edu/performance
  2. REVIEW YOUR POSITION DESCRIPTION:
    1. Click on “Current Plan” at the top.
    2. On the line for the upcoming year, click “View /Edit”
    3. Click on “Position” to review your position description (this is generated from Workday)
      1. If this is accurate, proceed to the next step.
      2. If this is substantially inaccurate, work with your supervisor to ensure your Position Description accurately reflects your areas of responsibility.
  3. ADD YOUR PERFORMANCE GOALS:
    1. Click on “Current Plan” at the top.
    2. On the line for the upcoming year, click “View /Edit.”
    3. Under the first “Goals and Objectives” section, click on the “+goal” button.
    4. Type the first goal you have for the year.
      1. Include any specific metrics, steps, or deadlines for this goal.
    5. Click Save.
      1. If you need to edit, you can do so using the “edit” button.
    6. Continue steps c-e, until each goal is individually listed.
    7. The expectation is each employee will have 3-5 performance goals.
  4. ADD PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOALS:
    1. Professional development goals will be added, as you did with the performance goals.
    2. The expectation is each employee will have two to four professional development goals.
